Healthy Winter Skin: What To Know To Achieve It
Article by: Suzanne Olsen
Every skin type, no matter what age is affected by the cold winter weather. It is so important for everyone to realize that what they have been applying for protection (moisturizers/night creams) throughout Autumn, is not always sufficient as for the winter season. As our environment/temperature changes, so should our skin care protection.
Winter brings with it dehydration (in other words, no humidity) which brings about premature aging from the skin’s surface. The cold weather is actually sucking tiny water lipids away from the skin leaving your skin lacking volume and the true skin vulnerable to premature aging.
Think about how we put on more layers onto our bodies as the temperature drops, we should also do the same for our skin. As the humidity drops along with the temperature we need thicker more hydrating moisturizers, which should if necessary be applied several times during the day as needed. As soon as the surface skin begins to feel tight, your skin is in jeopardy of aging. As moisture is sucked out from the surface, skin begins to collapse thus premature wrinkling occurs. Moisturizers and night creams act as barriers/shields that lock in natural moisture, leaving the skin looking and feeling youthful and dewy.
There are many types of moisturizers and it is confusing to know which one is right for you and exactly when you should change to a lighter or more protective (heavier) one, depending on the season. If you were not aware, we offer skin consultations to our clients, where we go over your home care products and make sure that you are using the right product for the season. Remember preventing aging is easier with than curing them. Make an appointment, so that you can feel confident that you will face this cold winter knowing you are keeping your youthful glow!
