agelogiceyemask

We are so excited to announce that Guinot has added to their homecare eye range, Age Logic Eye Mask. After the launch of the Eye Logic Facial, which resulted in a dramatic improvement in three target areas: wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles, Guinot has made the Age Logic Eye Mask available to purchase for home use. The eyes are the first area to show signs of ageing and fatigue. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more fragile than the skin on other parts of the face. With exposure to wind, cold and the Sun, early onset of wrinkles and lines can become more visible. Fluid buildup, fatigue poor circulation and inadequate care can accentuate any puffiness, as well as those unattractive dark circles around the eye.

The mask is exclusively patented by Guinot and is made of microfiber, allowing hold more of the restorative serum concentrate. It’s shape and material perfectly fit the eye contour area. Each mask is individually sealed and comes in a set of four. Designed for someone on the go who want to extend the lasting results of the Eye Logic spa treatment and those who want instant visible results, with dark circles puffiness and wrinkles.

Fountains Introduces The Pregnancy Facial

Guest Blogger: Erin Bunty

You asked, we answered! We have had many requests for a deep cleansing facial that can be received during pregnancy. Our flagship Hydradermie facial is amazing, but unfortunately we do not recommend it during pregnancy, due to the galvanic current. The current that we use in the Hydradermie is to help with product penetration and opening the pores to allow extractions. During pregnancy the skin can rapidly change and suddenly you’re faced with new challenges due to a change in hormones. Many pregnant women need extractions to rid the pores of excess dirt and oil.

The HydraClean has always been a go-to facial for a quick cleansing facial for expecting moms. Although the HydraClean is a great facial as well, many moms-to-be have other skin concerns that require a longer facial in order to address them. During pregnancy, you may experience dehydration or hyper-pigmentation. Due to this, Fountains Day Spa has created a new facial, geared towards pregnant women who want a luxury deep cleansing facial.

The Pregnancy Facial begins by using a Thermoclean Electrode with an individually prescribed gel to trigger hyper-secretion of the sweat and sebaceous glands to clean the pores and rid the skin of oil and toxins. The Esthetician performs extractions, and follows with a relaxing facial massage. Your Esthetician will use one of our luxury Guinot masks, based on your skin type, to conclude this ultimate prenatal facial.

Other Facials available during Pregnancy

Aromatics Facial– This relaxing facial uses essential oil blends suited for your skin type. These oils help to nourish and hydrate the skin. The Esthetician uses these oils while performing a lymphatic facial massage. This will help your body get rid of toxins and reduce redness on your face. The aromatics mask is a setting mask, which binds water to the skin for extra hydration. This facial is perfect for any mom to be, that is experiencing redness, breakouts or dehydration.

Beaute Nueve Facial– This facial is for the mom to be that is experiencing issues with hyper-pigmentation. Your Esthetician uses a gentle fruit acid peel for extra exfoliation, followed by a vitamin C mask to help lighten and inhibit the production of melanin. This facial will help to unclog pores, soften lines and fade brown spots, while promoting a softer, clearer complexion.

HydraClean Facial– The HydraClean facial is a 25 minute facial working on cleaning the skin. This facial uses a heated wand to relax and open the pores to perform extractions. This is a good facial for moms who may have had a regular facial routine before getting pregnant and wants to continue regular maintenance. It would also be ideal for moms to be that have grown uncomfortable laying down for long periods of time.

In order to remedy this problem we must first understand how the skin reacts when exposed to sun light. It is vital for our skin to get exposure to natural sun light, however too much exposure is not good. I recommend getting outside early in the morning or late in the evening, at those times the amount of UVA and UVB rays are less intense. By that I mean the rays are less damaging, and the heat is not as strong. On top of that the Sun’s nutrients (vitamin A and D) are more abundant.

The heat from the Sun’s rays penetrates deep into the dermis layer (top layer of skin). As the heat builds up, it stimulates the skin’s natural protection known as Melanin, to come up to the surface and protect the core cells below. It is the natural reaction to the heat of the sun. Unfortunately over time due to too much sun exposure, some of the melanin is left on the surface and remains as hyper pigmentation, brown spots or melasma. Once the melanin is burnt, it can become lighter in texture in winter months but does not return to its original even color tone.

Guinot’s NEWHITE Skincare Range Brings New Life to Pigmented Skin

Newhite

NEWHITE is a professional treatment program which helps to correct pigmentation disorders, whilst preserving the skins beauty. The NEWHITE program is the only brightening skin care program that can be measured in time for visible results.

Two Key Ingredients Throughout the NEWHITE Range

    • MELANOXYL creates two effects on the melanocytes. It slows UV-induced melanin production and reduces the initial presence of melanin in the skin.

  • VITAMIN C reinforces the lightening and anti-pigmentation action. Through its antioxidant and anti-free radical action it protects the skin and cutaneous tissue. Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis thus regenerating the tissue.

The NEWHITE range is comprised of several products, which all work together to even out skin color and bring a healthy even toned completion. Please call us and ask for assistance. Let us help you love your completion again.

Healthy Winter Skin: What To Know To Achieve It

Healthy Winter Skin: What To Know To Achieve It

Winter Skin

Every skin type, no matter what age is affected by the cold winter weather. It is so important for everyone to realize that what they have been applying for protection (moisturizers/night creams) throughout Autumn, is not always sufficient as for the winter season. As our environment/temperature changes, so should our skin care protection.

Winter brings with it dehydration (in other words, no humidity) which brings about premature aging from the skin’s surface. The cold weather is actually sucking tiny water lipids away from the skin leaving your skin lacking volume and the true skin vulnerable to premature aging.

Think about how we put on more layers onto our bodies as the temperature drops, we should also do the same for our skin. As the humidity drops along with the temperature we need thicker more hydrating moisturizers, which should if necessary be applied several times during the day as needed. As soon as the surface skin begins to feel tight, your skin is in jeopardy of aging. As moisture is sucked out from the surface, skin begins to collapse thus premature wrinkling occurs. Moisturizers and night creams act as barriers/shields that lock in natural moisture, leaving the skin looking and feeling youthful and dewy.

There are many types of moisturizers and it is confusing to know which one is right for you and exactly when you should change to a lighter or more protective (heavier) one, depending on the season. If you were not aware, we offer skin consultations to our clients, where we go over your home care products and make sure that you are using the right product for the season. Remember preventing aging is easier with than curing them. Make an appointment, so that you can feel confident that you will face this cold winter knowing you are keeping your youthful glow!

Lymphatic Drainage Massage: 101

History of Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic Draining is a gentle, non-invasive technique that has a powerful effect on the body. However this technique hasn’t been around forever, in fact the Lyphatic System was first discovered in 1622 by the medical. Later, an Italian physician Hazleton Asselli noticed milky veins in a dog after it was given food.  The term, Lymphatic Drainage was later coined by an Osteopathic Doctor from Toronto named, Frederic Maillard.

In 1932, Danish Massage Practitioner, Emil Vodder developed a hands-on technique for lymph drainage called, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, which is a type of gentle massage that encourages the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart.

LymphaticSystem_Female

How the Lymphatic System Works for the Body

The Lymphatic System moves fluids through your body and returns it to the Circulatory System. It is the body’s way of disposing of waste, bacteria, excess water, proteins, and more. These are cleared away from the connective tissue and returned to the blood stream for removal by the kidneys. The Lymphatic System collects proteins and molecules that are too large to return to the blood. The proteins of molecules are transported and filter through the lymph nodes and then rejoin the blood by the Subclavian and Jugular veins.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage requires that the skin is stretched and torqued in a specific manner, based on scientific, physiological principles that are proven to encourage lymph flow.

How Can Lymphatic Drainage Help You?

Lymphatic Drainage massage is a gentle moving massage and it increases lymphatic circulation it helps to remove the toxins from the body and assists load lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage cleanses and regenerates tissue and therefore promotes homeostasis in the body.

The internal movements that this massage stimulates, encourages the formation of lymphocytes which in turn produces antibodies which helped the body’s resistance to infection. Lymphatic Drainage also encourages and improves lymph drainage in the healthy lymph vessels, which helps keep fluid away from swollen areas.

What is a facial?

A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it’s given by an experienced, knowledgeable Esthetician. Facials clean, exfoliate and nourish the skin, promoting a clear, hydrated complexion, and can help improve and maintain a youthful appearance.

A facial will provide the best results when it is a part of an on-going skincare program, including regular facial treatments as well as at-home care. Facial treatments can include a variety of actions, including cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, facial masks, peels and massage.

1

Why do people need facials?

  • Facials can actually clear your pores. A professional treatment will cleanse your skin in a way that you simply cannot achieve at home.
  • If your skin is behaving badly, you’ll find out why. Your skin can and will change over time, this can vary depending on age, weather and even hormones. It is always a good idea to have a licensed Esthetician help you to address those changes, identify the potential reason and to educate you on how to treat those concerns. If you have great skin now, don’t trust that it will last forever. For example, many people suffer from eczema in the winter and will simply blame dryness. Not treating a serious condition such as this can lead to long-term damage!
  • You can get extractions done the right way. Don’t lie, we know you do it, but every time you squeeze a pimple you are risking acne scarring and dark marks. Extractions done regularly by an Esthetician will help keep your skin to stay clear. It will also help prevent long-term damage that you might be causing by doing it yourself at home. You may even find that receiving regular facials will eliminate any reason to pop or pick at any blemishes. Facial are an essential step to preventing imperfections.
  • Facials are better than a visit to the beauty counter. You know when you go to a department store and someone tells you what to buy based on looking at your skin under fluorescent lights? This is not how you should be purchasing your skincare items. A knowledgeable, licensed Esthetician will provide you with personalized skin recommendations and a regimen that will address your individual concerns. The best way for anyone to make suitable recommendations for your skin is to examine your bare skin after it has been cleansed. Once you’re on the appropriate regimen, your Esthetician should update it seasonally as your skin changes. It’s like having your own skin concierge!
  • You’ll find your happy place. Facials are so much more relaxing than any DIY project you try on your skin at home. At Fountains many facials include a mix of high frequency, massage and hot towels, all to maximize the pampering experience. Stress can highly contribute to skin issues; therefore a facial can improve not only breakouts, but it can also give you a reason to take a few deep, cleansing breaths, and relax.

MicroDermabrasion

How often should people get facials?

The frequency in which a person receives facials depends on several factors, your skin type, condition, skincare goals, age, even where you live. On average, getting a facial by a professional once a month is ideal for someone who wants to maintain healthy looking skin.

It’s important to remember that the skin is a living organ, and because of that it goes through a type of shedding process. It takes about 30 days for skin cells to move up from the dermis (deeper layers of skin) to the epidermis (surface skin). Once the cells reach the surface, they flatten out, die, and stay right there on the surface of your skin. A facial simulates the exfoliation process, keeping the skin more toned and youthful looking. At a minimum a person should try to have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes.

Essential Oils and Massage

When you walk into a spa and smell all the incredible scents, such as lavender, peppermint, lemon, ylang ylang, etc., what’s your first thought? You think about how amazing it smells! What if I told you that those smells benefit both your mind, and your body?

The scientific aspect of aromatherapy comes from knowing the subtle differences in essential oils that are attributable to thousands of aroma chemicals, and how these chemical elements affect the human body. The aromatic properties of natural essential oils are a catalyst for change in the human mind and body.

essential oil female back spa

Essential oil aromas stimulate the part of the brain that affects emotion. The shape of an essential oil molecule is like a key that opens lock-like structure in the olfactory nerve receptors in our nostrils. The impression of the aroma is sent directly and immediately to the limbic system. This is where memories are stored as well as where pleasure and emotions are perceived. When stimulated, the limbic system releases chemicals that affect the central nervous system. Serotonin counteracts anxiety; endorphins reduce pain. Inhaling essential oils can help attain a pleasurable emotional balance. A balanced emotional state in turn can have a therapeutic effect on physical problems.

Lavender herb and essential oil

Essential oils have positive effects on every level of your being. Their unique properties enhance the mind, body and spirit. Aromatherapy is the creative and scientific application of essential oils to create beneficial changes in our lives on aesthetic, therapeutic and mystical levels.

Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Lemon, Sweet Orange, and Sage are just a few of my personal favorites! Each have their own properties and benefits, but probably one of the most popular oils that I use during an aromatherapy massage is Lavender. Lavender is good for calming and relaxing as well as skin health, and restoring.

Overall, essential oils are a great enhancement and bring more benefits to your massage!

Everyone Is Getting Microdermabrasions…Even Statues

A few months ago, I read a newspaper article about how the Ulysses S. Grant bronze memorial, after 93 years is undergoing a month long restoration to remove a massive buildup of bronze patina deposits, rust, dirt and grime. “Weary. Sick. Beleaguered.” is how they described the monument’s condition.

What does the U.S. Grant Memorial have to do with Microdermabrasion? One of the main techniques they are using for the restoration is sandblasting — shooting streams of sand under pressure, which cuts through the grime and abrades the surface, leaving it as smooth and clean as it was 93 years ago. That basic concept for our purposes –applying a crystalline material known as aluminum oxide — is how microdermabrasion smoothes and refines the texture of the skin.

What is Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is an effective way to diminish acne scarring, large pores, fine lines, and hyper pigmentation (sun damage) by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. Other benefits include boosting the cellular renewal rate and stimulating collagen production–both of which are key elements of youthful radiant, firm skin.

There are many degrees of intensity when it comes to exfoliation. The exfoliation you do at home is very mild. Microdermabrasion is much more aggressive, although not nearly as aggressive as some of the medical grade chemical peels, usually administered in a doctor’s office. One might think that microdermabrasion would be painful, but the vast majority of clients who get microdermabrasion do not feel even the slightest amount of pain. This is because the machine has intensity settings which allows the Esthetician to apply a lighter touch for more sensitive skin.

Microdermabrasion has been performed in the U.S. for about twenty years and in Europe for 35 years. It was developed as an alternative to a much more aggressive (and painful) treatment simply called, Dermabrasion. Dermabrasion often required an anesthetic and left the skin extremely irritated and swollen for several weeks. Microdermabrasion avoids these negative effects. In fact, microdermabrasion is often referred to as a “lunchtime peel” because there is no down time — you can get the treatment on your lunch hour and return to work with radiant, glowing skin!

Microdermabrasion

Who Should Avoid Microdermabrasion

Although most people are good candidates for microdermabrasion, it is not for everyone. If any of the following conditions are present, we would not recommend microdermabrasion:

• Extremely Sensitive skin; moderate to severe rosacea
• Large amounts of broken capillaries, also known as Couperosis
• Severe acne, characterized mainly by pustules and inflammation (wet acne)
• Autoimmune disorders
• Eczema
• Dermatitis
• Diabetes
• Psoriasis
• Lupus
• Recent Laser treatments or cosmetic injections
• Use of Accutane within the past year (a very strong acne medication with significant side effects)
• Use of highly concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) within the past month
• Use of Vitamin A derivatives such as Retin-A, Renova, or Differin within the past month

We ask new facial clients to complete a questionnaire which will give us more insight as to whether you would be a good fit for microdermabrasion. We also have a brief consultation before performing a microdermabrasion treatment.

Microdermabrasion Results

It is important to note that microdermabrasion will not result in perfect skin. Deep wrinkling, severe scarring and severe hyper pigmentation can be diminished, but we don’t want to give you the impression that these conditions will disappear with a single microdermabrasion treatment. We always see improvement in the skin, even after one treatment, but the degree of improvement will vary with each person. For maximum results, we recommend a series of six treatments to be performed 10-14 days within each session. This six treatment series can be done up to three times a year.

Another key consideration is that microdermabrasion makes the skin more vulnerable to the effects of the sun. For those who spend lots of time outside during the summer — at the beach, pool, on a boat, or on the golf course, we recommend holding off on microdermabrasion treatments during the summer. Now that fall is here, it’s the perfect time for getting a microdermabrasion treatment. But even during the cooler months, it is extremely important to still use a sun block to protect the skin and maximize the results. Applying a moisturizer three times a day for the four days after microdermabrasion will minimize any drying effects as a result of microdermabrasion.

MicroDermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is also popular with people who don’t really have conditions that they wish to correct — they simply want to maintain healthy, smooth, glowing skin. These people will often do a microdermabrasion treatment, every few months as an alternative to our traditional Guinot facials.

We welcome any questions you may have about microdermabrasion.
