Bridal Waxing Timeline

As an Esthetician, I get to work with many brides, and help them prepare for their big day! This summer it was my turn! Of course I know how important it was to plan out my facials and home care, to make sure my skin was perfect. One thing that I wish I would have been better at was planning my waxing timeline so that I was silky smooth for all the events leading up to my wedding, as well as making it through the whole honeymoon without having to worry about pesky hairs.

My (Failed) Waxing Story

My Bachelorette weekend was at the beach and was only 3 weeks before my wedding day. Since I didn’t have a waxing timeline I planned it all wrong! I waxed right before the beach weekend so when it was a week before my wedding day, my hair growth was not long enough, even though I could see all the tiny hairs that were coming through the surface! I contemplated waxing at the very last minute (the day before my wedding), so that my hair might be long enough, but I realized I had other appointments to think about. I had scheduled a spray tan a couple days before the wedding, so that it would look natural by my actual wedding day. I could not wax after the spray tan or all the color would have been taken away with the wax. Needless to say my waxing timeline was not properly planned out and I had to spend my honeymoon shaving, tweezing and obsessing of little hairs when if I had planned it better I would have spent that extra time with my new hubby! Hence I have created this wedding waxing timeline so save all you lovely brides-to-be from having the same stubbly experience.

How To Prepare

My suggestion to any bride looking for smooth skin for her wedding and honeymoon would be to start waxing early. Whether you plan on waxing your brows, underarms, legs or bikini area, it always helps to know how the skin reacts, as well as your own hair’s growth pattern. Another great thing about starting early is that you begin to thin out the hair itself. Continuous waxing will eventually damage the hair follicle and the hair growth will become more sparse. If you begin waxing a year or so before, you will be a great shape come the big day!

When planning out your waxing timeline, there are a few things you should consider. Most likely there will be a few events leading up to your wedding day, Bridal showers, Bachelorette parties and engagement pictures. These are all things that you would most likely need some kind of waxing done beforehand. It’s good for you to know that hair grows in three different stages and each follicle is growing at a different speed. The hair shaft needs to be at least ¼ of an inch long for the wax to pull it out. I recommend to all my clients that they wait until the shortest hair is at ¼ of an inch so they get a much cleaner wax and they don’t have tiny hairs popping up in the next few days. I know letting the hair grow at first can be a pain, but trust me, it will all be worth it in the end. Typically you can plan to wax every 4-6 weeks. This is where I went all wrong!

Yes, it seems tedious, but if you can plan it correctly it is so worth it! Your wax will last a lot longer than shaving and can also cut down on the unsightly ingrown hairs. Waxing timelines can also help you get the perfect wax for another big event or vacation. Feel free to book an appointment and we can help you go over your timeline!

Suzanne’s Sun Care Tips

Guinot Sun Products

Very soon the warm weather will be beating down on us and I feel that after our long, drawn-out, cold winter, many of us will be rushing out to feel the warmth on our sun-deprived skins. Before you venture out, I want to pass on some valuable information to keep you and your skin enjoying the great outdoors without too much concern about the Sun’s rays and their effect on your skin.

For thousands of years, our ancestors knew the beach was a place to rejuvenate, get fresh air, build-up our Vitamin D levels and fill our lungs with fresh air.  The Sun warms our Earth, gives us light, and grows our food. It is extremely powerful in both good and harmful ways. I believe the Sun is a good thing, but just like anything that’s good, too much of it can be a bad thing.

Follow these simple rules for sun exposure to keep yourself protected, safe, and having fun:

Safest times to be in the Sun:

If you are someone who loves feeling the warm rays on your skin, I suggest getting out early in the morning (7am -11am) or late in the evening (2pm-6pm). During these times, the Sun is farthest from your body and the rays are not as strong, meaning less damage can be done.

Application Tip:

I recommend applying two layers of any sun product you’re using. The first you rub into the skin and the 2nd you pat on top of your skin, right over the first layer. Studies show that when you rub a sun product into the skin it penetrates further, leaving the surface layer unprotected.

Use Sun protection that works:

I have previously blogged on Guinot’s Nucleic Defense Sun Protection Range before and how it differs from most other sun protection lines. Nucleic Defense is THE FIRST sunscreen formulated with DNA molecules and sun filters, other sunscreens only have sun filters. The DNA molecules are absorbed by the skin and act like an additional skin barrier to neutralize UV rays. Sunscreens without DNA in them allow the UV rays to penetrate into the skin, where they begin to damage your own skin’s DNA, causing premature aging, dehydration and hyper-pigmentation. I now have clients telling me of their experiences and how Guinot’s sun range has saved their skin from burning and aging.

One of my main objectives for this coming month is to educate as many people as I can on the importance of sun protection, how to use it, what products to use in certain locals, and what products to use for different skin types. Because, just like with with daily skincare, it’s not one-type-fits-all.

That being said, enjoy and relax in these coming months, but put on your sunscreen first!

Guinot Hydra Bronze

Ideal Skin Type: All Skins

Guest Blogger: Erin Ryan

Growing up, I was a huge sun bather, I just couldn’t get enough!  The darker I got, the more sun I would crave! Summer days were spent laying at the beach or pool for many hours, trying to achieve the perfect bronzed body.   Now that I am educated on what those extended days in the sun actually did to my skin, I’ve looked for other, safer ways to achieve the same summer glow without the risk.  This is why, when Guinot introduced their Lait Hydra Bronze moisturizer, I knew I had to try it!  I have tried so many creams claiming to give a natural looking tan.  I have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to self-tanners.  But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t try one more!

15% off Guinot Lait Hydra Bronze May 27th – June 2nd

Guinot’s Hydra Bronze is unlike any other cream I’ve tried before.  It also applies evenly every time, and I have yet to see any streaks or unnatural looking pigments.  The cream itself is white, which means it won’t rub off on your clothes or sheets.  The color develops into a soft brown, so there will be no orange in sight! What really surprised me was that this cream doesn’t just tan your skin, it’s also moisturizing it too!  I was amazed at how hydrated my skin felt after applying the cream.  There wasn’t any need for body lotion!  Also Lait Hydra Bronze was created to be used on both the face and body. The main ingredients in the Lait Hydra Bronze is DHA and Erythrulose, which is what gives the skin a tan pigmentation that intensifies with continued use. It also contains a Hydrocyte Complex.  This is what gives your skin all the hydration it’s going to need.

How To Use For Best Results:

To get the most out of this product, I would recommend exfoliating your skin beforehand.  Removing the dead skin cells on your body will result in a more natural-looking and longer-lasting tan.  Use Lait Hydra Bronze right after getting out of the shower and drying off with a towel. Your skin can soak up all of the hydration that this cream provides. When applying it to your face, blend the cream down your neck and onto your decollete; this will give you a more natural look. This cream can be used several times a week to maintain or increase the desired level of color.  It is important to remember that this cream is not a sun protectant, you will still need to use an SPF if you plan to be out in the sun.

How to achieve glowing, Summer ready legs

Now it’s May the weather is getting warmer out, and its time to break out those shorts hemlines, and show off those lovely legs of yours! What’s that?  Your legs aren’t ready to see the light of day?   Well this month we are offering some of our personal tips on how to get you glowing, Summer ready legs.

Step 1

The first step is exfoliation. I recommend using Biotone Micronized Beads, this product is easy to use in the shower or bath, and comes in many exciting aromas. A good scrub will slough away dead skin cells, leaving the body, legs and arms glowing and polished. Your skin will feel amazingly soft. I recommend during the summer months to do a full body scrub every seven days, and more frequently on the areas that tend to get dryer quicker, such as the elbows, knees, and feet.

Step 2

The next step for beautiful legs is to moisturize at least twice a day, once in the morning after bathing, and then again in the evening.  Biotone also offers amazing body butters in array of scents; Milk & Honey is one of my personal favorites. Moisturizing is very important to maintaining the skins youthful soft glow.  Every time you use soap on your skin you are stripping tiny water lipids away, leaving the skin parched and increases the ageing process.

Suggested Spa Treatment

If you are looking for a professional approach to glowing summer legs, The Fountains offers a spa Body Polish treatment.  This is very popular during this time of the year. You start off with receiving a full body scrub given by one of our massage therapists, using a Biotone scrub. Once your body has been fully exfoliated you will head to the shower to rinse off the product along with your dead skin, revealing a new supple layer of skin.  At this point your therapist will lead you back to your room, where they will apply a thick layer of Biotone body butter, sealing in moisture and delivering a nice healthy glow.

Step 3

To take your legs to the next step of being summer-ready I would recommend introducing yourself to sunless tanning. It is a great way to maintain that healthy sun-kissed tan without damaging your skin. By exfoliating your skin prior to applying a tanning product makes it almost impossible to leave streaks.  Guinot offers a wonderful sunless tanning lotion for both the face and the body.  Generally a sun-less tan will last you roughly a week. To ensure that you receive a long lasting tan, it’s recommended to keep up with moisturizing your skin on a daily basis.   As long as your skin is moist and exfoliated you can be assured of a perfect sunless tan.

Have fun showing off your beautiful legs this summer, and get ready for the all the compliments you will receive!
