Bridal Waxing Timeline
As an Esthetician, I get to work with many brides, and help them prepare for their big day! This summer it was my turn! Of course I know how important it was to plan out my facials and home care, to make sure my skin was perfect. One thing that I wish I would have been better at was planning my waxing timeline so that I was silky smooth for all the events leading up to my wedding, as well as making it through the whole honeymoon without having to worry about pesky hairs.
My Bachelorette weekend was at the beach and was only 3 weeks before my wedding day. Since I didn’t have a waxing timeline I planned it all wrong! I waxed right before the beach weekend so when it was a week before my wedding day, my hair growth was not long enough, even though I could see all the tiny hairs that were coming through the surface! I contemplated waxing at the very last minute (the day before my wedding), so that my hair might be long enough, but I realized I had other appointments to think about. I had scheduled a spray tan a couple days before the wedding, so that it would look natural by my actual wedding day. I could not wax after the spray tan or all the color would have been taken away with the wax. Needless to say my waxing timeline was not properly planned out and I had to spend my honeymoon shaving, tweezing and obsessing of little hairs when if I had planned it better I would have spent that extra time with my new hubby! Hence I have created this wedding waxing timeline so save all you lovely brides-to-be from having the same stubbly experience.
My suggestion to any bride looking for smooth skin for her wedding and honeymoon would be to start waxing early. Whether you plan on waxing your brows, underarms, legs or bikini area, it always helps to know how the skin reacts, as well as your own hair’s growth pattern. Another great thing about starting early is that you begin to thin out the hair itself. Continuous waxing will eventually damage the hair follicle and the hair growth will become more sparse. If you begin waxing a year or so before, you will be a great shape come the big day!
When planning out your waxing timeline, there are a few things you should consider. Most likely there will be a few events leading up to your wedding day, Bridal showers, Bachelorette parties and engagement pictures. These are all things that you would most likely need some kind of waxing done beforehand. It’s good for you to know that hair grows in three different stages and each follicle is growing at a different speed. The hair shaft needs to be at least ¼ of an inch long for the wax to pull it out. I recommend to all my clients that they wait until the shortest hair is at ¼ of an inch so they get a much cleaner wax and they don’t have tiny hairs popping up in the next few days. I know letting the hair grow at first can be a pain, but trust me, it will all be worth it in the end. Typically you can plan to wax every 4-6 weeks. This is where I went all wrong!
Yes, it seems tedious, but if you can plan it correctly it is so worth it! Your wax will last a lot longer than shaving and can also cut down on the unsightly ingrown hairs.
