Ideal Skin Type: All Skins

Very soon the warm weather will be beating down on us and I feel that after our long, drawn-out, cold winter, many of us will be rushing out to feel the warmth on our sun-deprived skins. Before you venture out, I want to pass on some valuable information to keep you and your skin enjoying the great outdoors without too much concern about the Sun’s rays and their effect on your skin.

For thousands of years, our ancestors knew the beach was a place to rejuvenate, get fresh air, build-up our Vitamin D levels and fill our lungs with fresh air.  The Sun warms our Earth, gives us light, and grows our food. It is extremely powerful in both good and harmful ways. I believe the Sun is a good thing, but just like anything that’s good, too much of it can be a bad thing.

Follow these simple rules for sun exposure to keep yourself protected, safe, and having fun:

Safest times to be in the Sun:

If you are someone who loves feeling the warm rays on your skin, I suggest getting out early in the morning (7am -11am) or late in the evening (2pm-6pm). During these times, the Sun is farthest from your body and the rays are not as strong, meaning less damage can be done.

Application Tip:

I recommend applying two layers of any sun product you’re using. The first you rub into the skin and the 2nd you pat on top of your skin, right over the first layer. Studies show that when you rub a sun product into the skin it penetrates further, leaving the surface layer unprotected.

Use Sun protection that works:

I have previously blogged on Guinot’s Nucleic Defense Sun Protection Range before and how it differs from most other sun protection lines. Nucleic Defense is THE FIRST sunscreen formulated with DNA molecules and sun filters, other sunscreens only have sun filters. The DNA molecules are absorbed by the skin and act like an additional skin barrier to neutralize UV rays. Sunscreens without DNA in them allow the UV rays to penetrate into the skin, where they begin to damage your own skin’s DNA, causing premature aging, dehydration and hyper-pigmentation. I now have clients telling me of their experiences and how Guinot’s sun range has saved their skin from burning and aging.

One of my main objectives for this coming month is to educate as many people as I can on the importance of sun protection, how to use it, what products to use in certain locals, and what products to use for different skin types. Because, just like with with daily skincare, it’s not one-type-fits-all.

That being said, enjoy and relax in these coming months, but put on your sunscreen first!
